Everyone loves to know the cost of doing stuff. So, what does it cost to ship a car from the west coast of the USA to the east coast of Australia?
Here you go:
Shipping and associated origin services for a single vehicle in a consolidated container look like this:
USA Side Costs
- Collection from dealer to port – $200 USD.
- Origin services and Ocean Freight – Oakland to Sydney $1500USD
- Insurance 2% of the declared value (optional)
Australia Side Costs
- Wharf charges/unpacking/customs entry & quarantine inspection – $1250 AUD
- 10% GST is also applicable on the landed value of vehicle which is based on the value of the vehicle, cost of shipping and insurance.
So, putting all that in AUD brings the shipping and import to $3500 + $3250 GST (on car plus shipping). Total $6950 AUD.
The total landed cost into Australia will be just over $35,000 AUD. There is a 912E currently for sale here for $74k. Im not in this project to make money…but there should be enough in it to do a decent restoration and learn a bit in the process.
